Water Tanks

Our RainQueen Corrugated Steel Water Tanks are one of the most aesthetic water storage solutions currently available. They are good looking and yet incredibly practical, customizable and can store up to 10 000 litres of water. They are handcrafted from galvanised corrugated steel and are an intrinsic part of our South African heritage encapsulating everything about that mesmerising Karoo landscape.

RainQueen Round Tank - 10 000 litres.
RainQueen Round Tank - 10 000 litres.
What sets our tanks apart:
  1. Very strong (corrugations give incredible strength to the material - relative to its thickness)
  2. Fireproof
  3. Will not deteriorate if exposed to sunlight for years.
  4. Handcrafted locally and made to order.
We have three options available for you to consider:
  • Corrugated ROUND water tank with potable liner.
  • Corrugated STREAMLINE (oval) water tank painted internally with a food grade paint.
  • Corrugated SLEEVE for a plastic tank.

Round Water Tanks

Round tanks are the standard shape in the water storage industry as the circular shape has natural strength without the need for extra material or bracing. They can be used for both rain-water and emergency water storage.

All of our tanks come with the following standard specifications:

  • All of our tanks are made from a 0,8mm thick galvanised corrugated steel (Z275).
  • The inside is fitted with a 720gsm / 620 micron potable liner that sits like a bag on the inside to hold the water.
  • The top is flat and made from sheet metal with a 400mm diameter manhole.
  • The base of the tank is flat and made from metal and painted on the bottom with a rubberised paint (to add extra protection against corrosion).
  • The base has drainage holes drilled in the bottom to prevent water from accumulating between the liner and the steel.
  • All of our tanks come with 3 x 40mm outlets – outlet, inlet and overflow. Please note that although outlets are fitted with a standard 40mm female fitting we are able to supply a 20mm, 50mm, 80mm outlet on request.

Streamline Water Tanks

Oval2

Streamline tanks are oval tanks (equivalent to the Australian slimline corrugated tank). They are space saving and less conspicuous as their long straight sides allow them to fit flush against a wall and will even tuck under the eaves of a home. The height can be chosen so as to even fit beneath a window. Streamline tanks have a modern, appealing look to them and fit in with most new home designs.

  • All of our tanks are made from a 0,8mm thick galvanised corrugated steel (Z275).
  • Our streamline tanks have additional stainless steel cross braces that prevent the long wall from bowing with water pressure once filled.
  • The inside of our streamline tanks are sealed with a polyurethane sealant and painted internally with a foodgrade paint.
  • The top is flat and made from flat sheet metal with a 400mm diameter manhole.
  • The base of the tank is flat and made from flat sheet metal and painted on the bottom with a rubberised paint (to add extra protection against corrosion).

Water Tank Joints and Fittings

Below is a list with photographs to clearly show you how the details of your tanks (both round and streamline) will look.

STANDARD OUTLET POSITIONS:

RainQueen-Outlet

Outlet

This is placed 150mm from the base of the tank and can be fitted with a tap of your choice.

RainQueen-Inlet

Inlet

This is placed 150mm from the top of the tank.

RainQueen-Inlet

Overflow

This is absolutely essential and can be fitted with a pipe that will divert water away from the tank.

All tanks come with a vertical joining pattern and depending on the height of your tank it could also have a horizontal joining pattern.

RainQueen-Vertical-Rivet

Horizontal rivet pattern joining a top and a bottom ring together to increase

RainQueen-horizontal-rivet

Vertical rivet pattern joining two ends of a ring together.

Each tank is supplied with:

RainQueen-Wind bolt

Two fitted Wind-bolts (kindly note these are not for lifting the tank).

RainQueen-Wind bolt

A leaf trap that fits inside the manhole. This consists of a stainless steel mosquito-proof mesh that prevents leaves and other debris from entering the tank through your gutter downpipe.

Sleeves for Plastic Tanks

Corrugated steel tank sleeves can be used to cover and conceal plastic tanks. They are a cost effective alternative to achieving the corrugated steel tank look should distance, proximity to the ocean and already existing tanks be an issue. Streamline or oval sleeves can also be made.

RainQueen Corrugated Sleeve - 2.12m diameter / 2.2m height
RainQueen Corrugated Sleeve - 2.12m diameter / 2.2m height
  • The sleeve is made from a 0,58mm galvanised corrugated steel.
The sleeve does not have a base or top and is NOT water-tight.
  • If the top of the plastic tank is visible we can supply a sheet metal top (at an additional cost)
  • We can custom make the rings to fit any size plastic tank. The sleeve diameter is normally 300mm larger than the plastic tank diameter.
  • Holes will need to be cut to accommodate existing piping and connections.
  • The sleeves can also be transported in nested concentric rings which reduces the volume and transport costs.
